LATEST RELEASE.....LATEST RELEASE..... LATEST RELEASE......The first in our NEW SERIES of WORLD PREMIERES of music by NEGLECTED ENGLISH COMPOSERS.
DOROTHY HOWELL: Lamia, Tone Poem.....MAURICE BLOWER: Symphony in C.....JOSEF HOLBROOKE: Variations on The Girl I Left Behind Me Op.37b.....Recorded in Petrozavodsk; played by the Karelia Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by MARIUS STRAVINSKY.....
Dorothy Howell wrote few compositions for orchestra. Lamia is certainly one of her finest and enjoyed popular success. It was performed at the Henry Wood Proms while Dorothy Howell was still in her twenties.....Maurice Blower's Symphony, composed in 1939, lay undiscovered until 2002, and is his only composition for full orchestra. It is a stunningly melodic work, and is certain to become a popular 21st century concert piece. Holbrooke's Variations display the composer's glittering orchestration and ingenious invention to the full, and there's such a great sense of fun that the listener may wonder that this entertaining work is not already a regular feature of The Last Night of the Proms.
